We got up Tuesday and it was not raining..yeah! We loaded up the LTV, said our good byes and were on the road headed for Carlsbad Caverns about 9AM.
The drive was long but pretty easy. We stopped to get a few supplies, fuel and eat lunch in Deming. We arrived a bit after 6:30PM. Google said it was a 7 hour drive, but it took us over 8.5 hours.
June shared the driving. The mountains that look small in the picture are actually huge, about 8000 ft, we crossed them at about 6000ft.
I looked at the mileage, it was a 459 mile trip, to do it in the time Google says (6:50) you would have to average 67mph, that seems a bit much even when much of I10 has a 75mph speed limit. We averaged closer to 55 mph, so google is pretty optimistic if you are driving an RV. I have been using RV Trip Wizard for planning, it predicted 8:08, which is pretty spot on considering we stopped for lunch.
We are overnighting at what is called Chosa campground; it is just a place to park on BLM land, we are not alone.
Some interesting WiFi SSIDs at a place like this.
We have been trying for days to get into Carlsbad National Park. After April 1, they do timed entry, which means you need a reservation; they are all booked weeks into April. I have been using the Campnab paid service to try to snag an opening, I have had 10 Alerts that there is an opening on 3Apr. Once you get an alert you need to go to Recreation.gov and make a reservation. Unfortunately, we are driving, by the time I get pulled over someone else has already taken the spot, it is very frustrating. I finally got a reservation, but it was for only one person. We are going to show up and hope they let us both in.

My fingers are crossed, I really want to explore the caverns!!
